Man would rather die than be locked up

A high-risk offender told police to shoot him so he wouldn’t have to go back to prison.
Armed with a knife, Keegan Spearchief confronted police when they tried to arrest him at his home for domestic assault.
A crown prosecutor, reading an agreed statement of facts, told a provincial court that Spearchief said he wielded the kitchen knife in the hopes police would open fire.
Spearchief previously spent time in jail for sexual assault with a weapon, voyeurism and break and enter.
When court resumes next week, defense counsel plans to ask for a sentence of just under two years.
