The federal Environment Minister says a campaign against him in his Toronto-area riding won’t ‘scare’ the government into backing down in its defence of the Alberta oil sands.
Peter Kent tells the Herald that as long as the environmentalists deal in the facts and the science, the government has nothing to be embarrassed about.
Ottawa-based Environmental Defence plans to spend the next several months in Kent’s riding seeking out constituents concerned with the government’s policy on the oilsands.
The group says a campaign on this scale, calling thousands of households, has never been done before by an environmental group.
One of the comments Environmental Defence takes issue with is Kent’s statement last month that Alberta’s oilsands industry produced ‘ethical oil’ and that he blames ‘misinformation’ for the negative perception in the public.
