Alberta cabinet shuffle

Premier Ed Stelmach has shuffled his cabinet to fill vacancies left by those seeking to replace him.
Wetaskiwin backbencher Verlyn Olson is the new justice minister, replacing Alison Redford who resigned Wednesday to run for the Tory leadership.
Greg Weadick, an MLA from Lethbridge, takes over the advanced education portfolio from the departing Doug Horner.
Another backbencher, Cal Dallas from Red Deer, replaces Doug Griffiths as parliamentary assistant for finance.
Meanwhile, the Alberta Liberal leadership race has its first contestant.
Edmonton MLA Laurie Blakeman announced Thursday morning she intends to succeed David Swann, who announced last month he’s stepping down.
