The lacrosse era may be over in Calgary.
In an email issued by the Calgary Roughnecks’ owner and general manager on Tuesday, Brad Banister says the franchise is facing closure despite sitting atop the West Division standings.
Banister says he had the unfortunate task of telling team members this weekend they were going to have to wait for their paycheques.
He adds that in the past Calgary has rallied around both its NHL and CFL organizations when they hit hard times and is asking for the community to do so for the Roughnecks.
“And if ever there was a time when corporate Calgary was needed to step up and help a club that has brought two North American championships to this city in just six years, the time is now,” he says.
“If immediate help is not given, it is unlikely we will be able to complete the current season.
