Man dies after fire at a southwest home

A man, believed to be in his fifties, is dead after being caught in a fire at a southwest home Wednesday morning.

The blaze broke out around 10:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of 15th St. S.W. in the community of Capitol Hill.

Fire officials say the victim had no vital signs when they found him.

They say they discovered the man unconscious on the floor.

Firefighters quickly got him out of the house and handed him over to paramedics.

Adam Loria with EMS tells 660News they immediately began CPR.

“When we got him he had no vital signs whatsoever.  I believe from what I was just told…we were able to get some vital signs back but he was still deemed in critical condition,” says Loria.

The Calgary Police Arson Unit is leading the investigation, which is standard procedure when someone dies in a fire, even though a cause isn’t known.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
