Budget battle looms

The final budget under Premier Ed Stelmach’s leadership will be tabled Thursday.

There are predictions the fiscal document will contain a deficit, which is not sitting well with a number of government members.

A political scientist at Mount Royal University says some of the people vying for the leadership of the Alberta PC party are going to try and distance themselves from the financial document.

Keith Brownsey tells 660News among the expected critics is former Finance Minister Ted Morton, who reportedly threatened to quit the party because the budget was not balanced.

Morton did step down so he can campaign for the premier’s job.

Brownsey believes today’s budget will be divisive and people have every right to question it, seeing how Stelmach is getting ready to ride into the political sunset.
