A Calgary man has been sentenced to five years in jail for killing his wife during a fight over infedelity.
44-year-old Shenjun An was convicted of manslaughter after admitting to beating and shoving his wife after learning she was cheating on him, last year.
41-year-old Yarong Cheng hit her head on the floor, and later died in hospital.
An will serve three years behind bars because of time already served.
Speaking about his ruling, the judge said he has never witnessed a person with such a sense of responsibility and guilt, but spousal abuse is inexcusable and a life was lost.
The case led to major changes in how Calgary’s 9-11 operators do their job. No police or emergency officals were called to the home until 16 hours later, even though 9-11 was called the night before, and An convinced the operator there was nothing wrong.
