Edmonton Institution put on lockdown after suspicious death

The Edmonton Institution is in lockdown following the suspicious death of a inmate.

In a release, Correctional Services of Canada says a inmate was found dead Saturday night, with the jail then locked down.

Edmonton City Police are on scene trying to determine what happened, while Correctional Services has also launched a review.

The lockdown will stay in place until management deem it safe to lift, and all inmate visits have been cancelled.

The institution is a maximum security federal penitentiary holding 279 inmates.
