Alberta food and drink sales spike

Alberta leads the nation with an 8.8 per cent jump in sales at bars and restaurants last year.

Statistics Canada reports people in this province spent a whopping $580-million going out to dine and drink in 2010.

Economist Dan Sumner with ATB Financial tells The Calgary Herald it’s a good sign.

That’s because any rise in discretionary spending shows people are feeling more comfortable that the economy has recovered.
