Province says ring road input important, but not critical

Calgarians are running out of time to share their thoughts on the five possible routes for the southwest ring road.

So far, almost 3,000 people have attended open houses on the controversial project.

A consultant with Alberta Transportation tells 660News the process is not a popularity contest.

Alex Broda says there are a number of things that need to be considered when making a decision on the best plan moving forward, including technical, land, environmental and cost issues.

A number of community leaders have been speaking out against the various proposals because of the impact the massive transportation project will have on their neighbourhoods.

The final open house happens on Thursday, March 3 between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Elbow Springs Golf Course.

A provincial recommendation on the best option is expected to be tabled in June.
