More passengers and cargo headed through the Calgary International Airport than ever in 2010.
Spokesperson Jody Moseley tells 660News 3.7 per cent more passengers traveled through YYC last year.
“We’ve seen a lot of growth, a lot of activity. The airport’s really busy with passengers and cargo,” she says. “We saw 450,000 new travelers, so 12.6 million, which is an all time high for us.
International travel saw the largest increase, at 12.9 per cent, and Moseley says that’s because of a wide variety of available flights, including a new non-stop flight from Calgary to Tokyo.
YYC facilities also transported a record high cargo tonnage, with an increase of 8.1 per cent.
Moseley says once they complete the new expansion, they expect to accomodate even more passengers and cargo.
“We are about to embark on our major infrastructure projects and really what that does is provide the facilities in order to meet these growing demands, so you’ll see some changes as of April 3rd,” she says. “[There will be] major construction activity going on around the airport, and it’s really about focusing and putting things in place so that we can continue to see the growth and the demand.”
