A director with the Shawnessy Community Association expects that when a final decision is made on the Southwest Ring Road, not everybody is going to be happy.
Mike Piper says sadly a number of other transportation improvements for communities in the southwest are being overlooked.
(It) “just seems to be on the backburner,” tells 660News. “Unfortunately, this section of the ring road is taking precedent over all of those things. And it shouldn’t be. It should be in conjunction with” (it).
Piper says no matter which one of the five proposed routes is selected, there is going to be a major impact on the environment.
“The environmental impact, I think, exists regardless of which route we go,” says Piper, adding he believes the best option on the table is to turn 37th Street into a major highway.
The final open house on the controversial project will be held Thursday between 4pm and 8pm at the Elbow Springs Golf Course.
Alberta Transportation will table its recommended route in June.
