Drilling numbers higher than expected

Positive numbers from the oilpatch.

The Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors says rig utilization numbers in February reached a five year high.

Nancy Malone with the association tells 660News, the numbers are stronger than anticipated.

“February was strong in particular, as there was 74 per cent utilization of the available fleet.  In the first quarter we were predicting 60 per cent and we still have March to go and we’re not sure quite when break-up is going to happen.  So we’re just happy that the numbers are looking strong.”

The continued cold temperatures could keep rigs in the field longer than last year when the warm weather caused some road bans by this time of year.
