Calgary woman punished for admitted animal neglect

Cynthia Guan has pleaded guilty to causing or permitting an animal in her care to be under distress and has been fined $1,000 and has been banned from owning any new animals for 10 years.
Guan dumped her three month-old Doberman pup near the Calgary North Veterinary Hospital with a broken leg, a head injury and dehydration back in 2009.
Brad Nichols with the Calgary Humane Society tells 660News he’s pleased with the ruling because it sends a strong message to others that animal neglect will be punished.
He says the CHS will be doing regular check-ins on a Pomeranian that Guan will be allowed to continue to care for because the judge’s ruling bans her from owning any new animals.
The neglected Doberman is now doing well and has been adopted by a caring family.
