The issue of secondary suites in Calgary is making slow but steady progress.
In council on Monday night, a couple of hurdles were overcome to move the issue forward.
Council has decided to remove a lot of the owner’s regulations for people who already live in the up to 120,000 units in the city who would like to apply for a secondary suite.
Mayor Nenshi tells 660 news, he’s pleased with the results so far and getting the ball rolling on the issue.
He says council have also mandated more public consultation and are close to an agreement on making changes to allow suites around transit hubs and university campuses.
The results of the public’s input are expected in a report in December or January.
