Calgary Parking Authority fixing duplicate charges

The Calgary parking authority is rushing to clean up a money mess after around 23,000 people had duplicate charges for parking hit their credit cards.

The city body has received almost 1,200 calls over the last 10 days from customers trying to figure out what might have happened.

The worst error happened when one man deposited $1,000 into his ParkPlus account, which was processed four times, he’s already received his $3,000 refund.

Parking authority head Dale Fraser says a piece of hardware in their central system failed and that failure cascaded but he’s confident this will only happen once.

“We did have some fault detection in place that was affected and indeed now we’re working with independent systems that check each other to prevent from this happening again in the future.”

Customers who are owed refunds should see them on their credit cards by the end of next week.
