Home safety tips before you head out on vacation

Before you head out on vacation, remember to lock the door!

Weiser Marketing Manager, Steve Kolobaric, says that not locking your door on your way out is the number one violation by homeowners.

He adds layering protection is the best deterrent to keeping your home safe while you’re on holiday.

“You want to install lighting in your house, a lot of people pretend to be home with the timers and that’s really the smartest thing to do.  Making it look like you’re home really deters burglars out there and while your at it turn on a radio, that makes it sound like someone is home as well.”

Kolobaric, suggests when it comes to purchasing hardware for your home, “Buy the best you can, you know the money has been spent to reinforce your house.”

He says some keyless dead bolt locks actually automatically lock after 30 seconds and some allow you to program a temporary code for friends who are checking in on your home while you are away.
