Grrrr! It’s tax time

One of the most dreaded times of the year is fast approaching: income tax filing time.

The co-author of “78 Tax Tips for Canadian Dummies” believes his publication will come in handy for many.

“Like all dummy books, it’s broken down to everyday conversation with a bit of humour thrown in and sarcasm as well,” Brian Quinlan tells 660News. “So it’s definitely not a text book, not for studying taxes.  It’s supposed to be an easy-read guide to figure out why there are tax rules and how to take advantage of them in very lay man’s terms.”

Quinlan says you can always hire someone to do your tax return, but that’s not necessarily the answer either.

“They’re not really tax planning, looking forward in terms of income-splitting and taking advantage of certain tax rules,” adds Quinlan. “So it’s either you or you hire someone to help you, perhaps an accountant, to minimize” (your tax bite) —  in 2011 and 2012.”

Quinlan says tax planning is something people should do throughout the year.

The deadline to file your 2010 tax return is April 30th.
