Bicknell allegedly fired at police before arrest

RCMP are releasing more details about what led up to the capture of escaped killer William Bicknell.
Police allege Bicknell entered an elderly woman’s home north of Grande Prairie Saturday morning, and held her hostage.
She was able to escape several hours later, and called police, who responded to the home.
When they arrived, Bicknell fled and a car chase ensued.
Police say during the pursuit, Bicknell shot at officers, disabling an RCMP cruiser.
Bicknell drove into a ditch near Sexsmith, and a standoff began, during which he allegedly fired more shots at police.
A five year RCMP member with the Grande Prairie detachment suffered minor injuries while being shot at. It’s not clear if he was struck by a bullet.
Bicknell suffered undetermined injuries, and was flown to hospital in Edmonton where he is still receiving treatment.
