Escaped convict arrested in northern Alberta

A 5-hundred pound escaped convict has been taken back into custody.

42 year old William Bicknell was arrested following a police stand-off northeast of Grande Prairie Saturday night.

Earlier Saturday, RCMP were called to a home, and a man fled in a truck.

The pursuit proceeded south to east of Sexsmith when the suspect’s vehicle entered the ditch.  The area was contained by police and Bicknell surrendered to police.

Bicknell was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

A Grande Prairie RCMP officer sustained non life threatening injuries.

Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been contacted and will assist with the investigation.  ASIRT is mandated to investigate incidents or complaints involving serious injury or death, and matters of a serious or sensitive nature that may have resulted from the actions of a police officer.

Earlier this month, Bicknell overpowered a corrections officer while on a day pass from the drumheller correctional institution.
