Plan aims to make mud bogging illegal on Crown Land

A new provincial proposal aims to improve rural and urban planning, but it could end up being a bit of a kill-joy.

The plan would prohibit mud boggers from getting dirty on Crown land.

The South Saskatchewan Regional Advisory council has recommended banning boisterous activities, like four-wheeling and off-roading in nine areas, including the Porcupine-Pekisko rangelands and the Castle-Waterton area.

It is part of plan that’s been in the works for years; an attempt to conserve Alberta land and water for the future when Alberta’s population swells to more than five million people.

The Calgary Herald reports the blueprint, that also calls for responsible development and more bike paths along highways in southern Alberta, will be made available Friday.

The public will be able to give their two cents over the summer, before the province hammers out a final plan set to come into effect in 2013.
