Earth Hour returns for a fifth straight year

For a fifth straight year, Calgarians along with others around the world are being asked to curb energy consumption for Earth Hour Saturday night.
Some restaurants will serve dinner by candlelight, Tim Hortons will dim the lights and downtown towers won’t shine as brightly starting at 8:30.
Calgary hasn’t performed well during this event in the past.
In 2007, the city increased usage five per cent, although the spike was blamed on the Calgary Flames game that night and consumption decreased only a half per cent last year.
Assistant Executive Housekeeper Lisa Grass tells 660News, the Radisson Hotel Calgary Airport is turning off all of their lights and guests will head to the lobby to watch the Flames game by candlelight and kids can make lanterns.
The Westin Calgary is hosting candlelight service in their lounge while the lights are out and an open fire pit in the lobby.
