Herbs don’t help colic: report

It’s a curse if your baby has it.

Colic has a lot of parents seeking relief from the constant crying, on the internet.

Unfortunately, a new report shows those dietary supplements and other alternative therapies being advertised to help colic are more likely just a waste of money.

The report, published in the journal Pediatrics, found there were some signs that fennel seed dissolved in water before meals did seem to help about 65 per cent of babies.

However, researchers say the studies of fennel and other herbs touted to help baby were not scientifically solid.

“Having now looked at the evidence in terms of complimentary medicines, it is difficult to say that there is any effective treatment out there,” Rachel Perry, a researcher at Peninsula Medical School in Exeter, UK, told Reuters Health.

Experts say the best advice is just tender loving care;  allow someone to comfort baby while you take a breather;  and stay away from alternative therapies until there’s more research.
