Messy office desk = poor workplace reputation

Are you tidy at work?

Is your desk a veritable disaster area?

A new survey by Office Team finds a messy desk actually affects your workplace reputation.

73 per cent of human resources managers say the way you keep your desk affects their perception of your professionalism.

Office Team spokesperson Leslie Heathers tells 660News people have always had messy desks.

“But,” she adds, “recent surveys have suggested that workers’ desks have gotten more untidy as a result of the economic downturn.”

People might think papers piled on a desk makes them look busy, but Heathers says the opposite is true.

“I think today the perception is that you’re unorganized,” she notes. “You’re dishevelled.  You don’t have things in tip top order.”

Heathers says take some simple steps to clear the clutter, like doing some filing or printing fewer items, and it could go a long way to boosting your career.
