GuZoo given conditional permit to continue operations

A controversial zoo northwest of Three Hills has been given a conditional 60 day permit to continue operations.
GuZoo has been making headlines lately after a Facebook campaign showing images of animals in questionable living conditions were posted.
The province will conduct an independent third party investigation into GuZoo and its treatment of animals.
The zoo’s owner, Lynn Gustafson says he feels bad that the government is now being dragged into this.
” I feel sorry for (the government) the way they have to deal with this. Because of the protest its putting them on the spot. They have to react and they’re going to have an independent thing and that’s fine because we did that a few years back and I got some real good pointers actually,” says Gustafson.
Recently there have been accusations that the creator of the Facebook campaign doctored photos to make GuZoo conditions seem worse than they actually are.
A spokesperson for “Zoocheck” says she knows first hand that conditions at “GuZoo” are inhumane.
Julie Woodyer tells 660News she’s seen photos that she can guarantee have not been altered.
“I had a veterinarian out there three weeks ago and she took a lot of photographs for our purposes and I know that those photos are legitimate and they represent all the similar kinds of things so I can say the photos fairly represent the situation there,” says Woodyer.
She says Zoocheck has received hundreds of complaints from people who visited the facility and were appalled with what they saw.
