Conservative leader Stephen Harper has been saying it as if it’s an evil word: coalition.
But a Postmedia/Global National poll in Saturday’s Calgary Herald finds 54 percent of Canadians support a Liberal-NDP coalition over a Tory majority government.
However if the Bloc Quebecois is tossed into the equation, support for a coalition drops to 50 percent.
Darrel Bricker of Ipsos Reid, which conducted the poll, says the Bloc element in the survey means Harper could get his elusive majority as a result.
Bloc leader Gilles Duceppe has ruled out a coalition government, as has Liberal leader, Michael Ignatieff.
Bricker adds the Harper Tories have exploited the coalition theme for all it’s worth, saying it’s time to move on, and “coaltion talk won’t move them through the campaign.”
