Snow piles up on Calgary roads

Calgary area roads and highways were covered with thick, wet snow on Saturday.
The region remained under a winter storm warning.
The forecast called for 15 cms of new snow to fall on Saturday, with more in higher elevations such as the foothills and mountains.
Police Duty Inspector Dave Wood urged drivers to be cautious because of extremely icy intersections.
Drivers in south Calgary called 660News to say many roads still needed to be plowed.
A city spokesman said plows and sanders were out on the main routes and the department is optimistic the snow will melt because there of residual heat in the pavement.
On the highways, drivers reported the QE-2 in poor shape between Calgary and Olds because of blowing snow on the highway.
The AMA reported the Trans-Canada to be in poor condition east and west of Calgary.
Highway 22 southwest of Okotoks is also poor.
The winter storm warning covered much of southern Alberta, from Airdrie in the north, Banff to the west, Medicine Hat out east and all the way to the U-S border.
