Flooding fears follow massive snow melt

The snow has stopped falling and the leftover water is threatening to make its way into Calgary basements.

One of the best protective measures, according to Anne Marie Thomas with Insurance Hotline, is to take a quick walk around the neighbourhood to find problem spots.

“Take note if the storm drains are blocked,” she tells 660News. “Because that water always has to go somewhere and you don’t want it to be your basement. If you do see that the storm drains are plugged or you see significant water pooling, call 311.”

She recommends that those who haven’t done so already, should remember to point the downspouts away from their homes and shovel snow away from the home’s foundation.
