Report on high school dropouts reveals troubling numbers

High school dropouts are costing the country billions of dollars.

A new United Way study is out with that finding as well as several suggestions on how to fix the problem.

The group recommends kids not be legally allowed to leave school until the age of 17 and subsidies to finish school be extended to include students as old as 24.

About 29 per cent of Calgary high school students dropped out during the 2009-2010 school year.

That’s one of the worst rates in the country.
