Former Flames assistant coach diagnosed with brain tumour

Wayne Fleming has been diagnosed with a primary brain tumour.

The 61-year-old is in his first season with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He’s been resting at home since undergoing a procedure Thursday. A statement from the Lightning said involvement in the playoffs will depend on his recovery.

Fleming has served as an assistant coach with Calgary, Edmonton, Phoenix, Philadelphia and the New York Islanders.

He won a gold medal as an assistant coach with Canada at the 2002 Winter Games.
