French language leaders debate

The federal party leaders ramped up the rhetoric in tonight’s French-language leader’s debate.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper came under sustained attack on corporate tax cuts, the federal long-gun registry, and the cost of the Conservative criminal-fighting agenda.
Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff accused Harper of trying to “Americanize” Canada by trying to kill the gun registry.
Bloc Quebcois leader Gilles Duceppe landed some blows over the scandal involving Harper’s former advisor Bruce Carson, saying the prime minister was not concerned about the activity of his staff, but checks the Facebook pictures of opponents who want to get into rallies.
The debate went all over the map for a time and Harper used the disagreement among the leaders to say electing another minority Parliament would lead to more bickering.
Not surprisingly, representatives of Harper, Ignatieff and Layton all claimed victory for each leader after the first round.
