Recycle your old garbage can

Calgary will roll out black cart garbage cans for residents in the northwest later this month, so what’s the plan for your old one?

You may want to reuse it for storage like sports equipment, tools or extra soil for your garden.

The City suggests you recycle them for free at temporary Throw ‘N Go facilities at the Shepard Landfill, East Calgary Landfill and Spyhill Landfill, starting April 23rd until June 30, 2011.

You are asked to remove all metal parts and wheels from plastic cans before you take them for recycling.

If you can’t reuse or recycle your can, you can put it out for garbage collection.  Do not try to put the can in your blue or black cart. Instead, clearly mark the can FOR DISPOSAL and leave it out for pickup.

For more information about the service, including a community delivery schedule, visit calgary.ca/blackcart or call 311.
