The F-35 Stealth fighter jets that the Stephen Harper Tories want to buy have all the bells and whistles except for one thing.
According to Post Media and The Calgary Herald, the deal doesn’t include the engines for the aircraft.
The information was obtained through access to information laws by a peace activist.
Ottawa plans to buy 65 of the fighter jets and the Conservatives claim the price tag will be about $14 billion. But Parliamentary Budget officer Kevin Page has put the tab at $29 billion.
As for the cost of the engines, it’s unclear how much extra they would cost Canadian taxpayers.
Despite the evidence in the documents, the Defence Department suggests in an email that the cost of the engines is included in the price.
