A large animal cruelty investigation is underway near Drumheller.
RCMP along with ASPCA officers searched the land on Monday after getting a tip from the public and found the carcasses of 12 cows and horses.
In all, 140 horses and 200 head of cattle have been seized and taken to be looked at by a veterinarian.
At least three of the horses had to be put down because they were in bad shape.
Terra Johnston with the ASPCA tells 660News the property they searched is huge.
The horses are described as feral or wild and have had little or no contact with humans making them hard to handle.
Charges are now pending against the property owner.
Drumheller RCMP say the owner has faced animal cruelty charges in the past.
