James Louie found guilty of second-degree murder

A Calgary judge has found James Louie guilty of second-degree murder in the deaths of his two children as well as the attempted murder of his wife, in November of 2009.
During the trial, Louie had admitted to killing his 13-year-old son Jason and 9-year-old daughter Jane in his Calgary home, but the man’s lawyers argued he was suffering from mental illness at the time and should be found not criminally responsible.
Louie was originally charged with first-degree murder, but the judge found him guilty of second-degree murder.
On Thursday, Louie’s ex-wife Ying Tang, who Louie tried to kill, released a statement saying the horrific crime has filled her life with pain, sadness and fear.
She also called on all parents to protect and love their children.
Sentencing submissions are expected to start May 4th, 2011.
