Debris falls from downtown highrise

High winds and reports of falling debris downtown resulted in the closure of a section on 10th Street at 12th Avenue southwest Tuesday afternoon.

Just before 5:00, a vehicle was struck by fallen debris from a building under construction at 10th street and 12th Avenue southwest.

When crews arrived they discovered debris hanging precariously off of a high rise building.

Brian McAsey with the Calgary Fire Dept. tells 660News, crews are bringing a crane in to remove any other dangerous overhanging materials from the building.

Luckily the driver of the vehicle wasn’t hurt, but roads will remain taped off as a precaution.

Currently 12th Avenue is closed between 9th and 11th Street, and 10th Avenue is closed between 11th and 12th Street.
