New poll says NDP could get 100 seats

A surprising new poll shows Canadians are falling more and more in love with the New Democratic Party.

Since the start of the campaign the NDP have doubled their numbers.

Political Scientist Lori Williams says the NDP has been able to do that by stealing support from all of the other parties.

“Usually from the Bloc in Quebec, but they are also making gains against Conservatives in critical areas like British Columbia,” says Williams.

The poll is one of the most accurate in this campaign with 3,000 people taking part.

EKOS Research has also done a seat projection.  According to the firm’s predictions, the Conservatives are slated to get a diminished minority with 131 seats.

The NDP would get 100 seats, while the Liberals would have 62 and the Bloc just 14.

Williams says that with all the coalition talk, the latest poll results would give the Grits and NDP a majority, without the help of the Bloc.

“This explains why there have been so many attack ads against Jack Layton in the last week,” she says.  “The Conservatives were obviously seeing numbers like this and were worried about the effect it might have.”
