One man killed after crash with crane

One man is dead following a two-vehicle crash involving a small Saturn and a crane truck.

That same piece of massive machinery was used in an incident earlier Wednesday afternoon to secure dangling debris from a downtown high-rise condo.

Investigators believe the four-door Saturn crossed the centre line at approximately 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, striking the westbound crane truck in the 3500 block of 50th Avenue S.W.

The crane ended up on top of the vehicle, crushing the car.

“There was a substantial impact on the Saturn and the driver did receive fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” says Inspector James Hardy.

The driver of the truck wasn’t hurt.

Police can’t confirm whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The traffic unit’s investigation is expected to last several days.

The victim’s name has not been released.
