Cloud over CBE Chief Superintendent’s compensation package

The Calgary Board of Education is being open and transparent about its budget shortfall and the loss of hundreds of teaching positions. But the Calgary Herald reports the CBE is being tight lipped about trustee approval of a compensation deal for Chief Superintendent Naomi Johnson.
Running the fourth largest school board in the country, Johnson is already paid more than her counterparts at the three largest school boards Canada.
When she started in 2009, Johson received $330 thousand including $247-thousand in basic annual salary.
The school board is currently grappling with a $61 million shortfall and facing the layoff of hundreds of teachers next September.
Trustees gave unanimous approval to a report on February 24th containing recommendations on executive pay. But so far the Board has not responded to requests from The Herald for copies of the deal, noting the decision was made in-camera.
