While it was a night of jubilation for the Conservatives, the NDP and the Greens, the Liberals and the Bloc were both shattered by the election results.
Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff’s party won only 34 seats, leaving it in third place.
Ignatieff failed to win his own seat, in his party’s worst-ever election showing.
Gilles Duceppe also failed to win his seat, and has already resigned as Bloc Quebecois leader after his party was reduced to only four seats.
As the Liberals consider their next move, no one will speculate on new leadership thus far.
Michael Ignatieff will speak Tuesday morning.
