The province is increasing its cancer coverage for Alberta firefighters.
Four cancers including prostate, breast and skin, bring the total coverage of cancers to fourteen.
The fire department’s Glenn Bjolverud tells 660News, a career in firefighting increases the likelihood of developing long term chronic health problems by about six to eight times.
If a firefighter is diagnosed with any of the cancers on the list and meets the criteria, the cancer is presumed to be work related.
The changes make this coverage among the best in Canada.
