Second annual Disaster Alley kicks off in Calgary

Would you be prepared to survive for 72 hours during a natural disaster or emergency?
The Calgary Emergency Management Agency is holding an event to help people understand how they work.
John Muir, with the province says the day is also an information session to teach families to prepare themselves for a disaster.
“[We’re] trying to encourage more to get prepared for emergencies,” he says. “So what that means is either creating a family plan, creating a 72-hour kit, which gives you the supplies you and your family needs to sustain you, should things like power go out or you’re unable to access the things that you need.”
They’ll be holding a number of demonstrations during the second annual Disaster Alley Saturday May 7th, including containing a ruptured pipeline, flood mitigation and a STARS and HAWC helicopter landing.
They’ll also have displays on 72-hour preparedness kits, a mobile field services hospital and aquatic rescue boats.
The event coincides with the end of Emergency Preparedness Week and runs from 11 until 3 Saturday at the Multi Agency Training Centre on 23rd Avenue S.E.
