Alberta’s international export growth will dip in 2012

“Voracious global demand for commodities will power Alberta’s export growth this year.”
That’s the word from Chief Economist, Peter Hall from Export Development Canada.
Volume is expected to lift demand for commodities next year with weaker prices tempering growth.
The EDC forecasts growth of 15 per cent this year and 8 per cent in 2012.
Hall tells 660News that the energy sector is still the economic driver of the province accounting for almost three-quarters of Alberta’s total international shipments.
Hall suggests that Alberta is diversifying its economy, with shipments of higher value goods to non-traditional markets, outpacing shipments of traditional commodities.
