Iran won’t admit if local journalist is under arrest

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There is more uncertainty today about the fate of Dorothy Parvaz as Iran is stopping short of admitting she’s being held there.  It’s the first time the country has spoken about her.

The 39-year-old grew up on the North Shore and now works for Al-Jazeera.

Her family and fiance are desperate to contact her.  They haven’t heard from her since April 29th

Iran’s foreign ministry says that is when Parvaz travelled to Syria with an expired Iranian passport, planned to work without a press permit, and had several other passports on her.

Last week Syria said it deported Parvaz to Tehran.  A Facebook group with at least 15,000 supporters is calling for her release.
