Cause of Citadel fire identified

The fire department has determined the cause of Sunday afternoon’s fire in Citadel that destroyed or damaged five homes.

Investigators have pinned down where the fire started, to a planter with peat moss on the rear deck of one of the homes, but they aren’t sure exactly what ignited the peat moss.

The Fire Department’s Brian McAsey tells 660News, while they can’t say for sure a poorly discarded cigarettte sparked the flames, they are again reminding people not to put out anything flammable in peat moss.

No one was hurt in the mid-afternoon fire, but initial damage is estimated at $2-million.
