Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Premier Ed Stelmach will visit the fire ravaged town of Slave Lake on Friday.
This will be Harper’s first visit to the affected area since wildfires destroyed much of the town.
Premier Stelmach visited Slave Lake on Tuesday and on Wednesday he announced $50 million dollars in support to the people affected by the blaze.
The number of wildfires currently burning in Alberta has dropped to about 72 with 19 of those out of control.
Rob Harris with Alberta Sustainable Resource Development says last year 83 thousand hectares of land was destroyed in wildfires so far this year alone that number is more than double.
He says the fear now is that thunderstorms in the forecast will spark new fires.
