Deerfoot construction to begin Tuesday

Calgarians are preparing for massive traffic slow downs along the Deerfoot Trail, as the province gears up to do construction work on the northbound lanes.
Trent Bancarz with Alberta Transportation tells 660News northbound Deerfoot will be reduced to two narrow lanes, as crews upgrade the concrete deck of the Ogden Road Bridge, near the Peigan/Barlow Interchange.
“We’re replacing the deck surface, so we’ll be taking the current concrete up, we’ll be taking some of it out and pouring new concrete over top,” he says.
That work is expected to go until August 5th and traffic will be reduced to just 50 km/h on the fly-over.
Bancarz says congestion and lane closures are unavoidable.
“There’s no way around it,” he says. “It’s just the nature of that type of work. Once you take the old concrete out and especially when you pour in the new, you simply can’t go on it for a while.”
Once that project is completed, crews will start in on the Calf Robe Bridge, a project which will see the stretch of northbound Deerfoot near Glenmore Trail restricted to two narrow lanes, until mid-October.
The $3.3 million dollar project will not affect southbound Deerfoot traffic.
