MLA laments ignored flood report recommendations

The Progressive Conservative MLA for High River is critical of his own government for not adopting a report which suggested the province put an end to the practice of allowing new homes to be built in flood prone areas.
George Groeneveld chaired a committee in the aftermath of devastating flooding in the region in 2005.
But the report was never released and Groeneveld was forbidden to talk about it.
Groeneveld tells the Calgary Herald, he’s bitter because if suggestions had been instituted from the report, the risk today wouldn’t be nearly as great as it is.
He notes quite a few homes have been built in flood prone areas since 2005, adding more will built in the future.
He suggests part of the problem in the report being rejected is pressure from builders who have bought land in areas that have problems with flooding.
