City’s oldest fire hall to be torn down

Calgary’s oldest working fire hall is getting replaced.

The No. 5 station along 14th Street S.W. will be torn down, despite calls from the Calgary Heritage Authority to preserve the structure.

The Calgary Fire Department tells The Calgary Herald they would love to see the structure kept, but they’ve had many problems with the 1952 building and it’s no longer adequate for firefighting.

Construction on a new hall starts in September.
