The search for a man who fell in the Elbow River has been called off.
The fire department responded to reports about 5 p.m. Monday that two men were in distress in the river near the Talisman Centre.
Rescuers spotted one man in the area about 40 metres downstream.
EMS says the man, in his 30’s was resuscitated and taken to hospital, where he is listed in stable but critical condition.
Rescuers scoured the river for the second man, but called off the search about 3 hours later.
Fire department spokesman Brian McAsey says the search will likely resume Tuesday morning, but it is now a recovery operation, not a rescue.
